Community Educator Program

AWARD

The amount of the award is based on financial need and may include: transportation to/from Seattle (prepaid ticket at lowest available airfare for participants traveling from developing countries and up to $750 for all others), the conference registration fee, discounted hotel accommodations (to be paid by program participant) and a nominal stipend (for meals; only available to participants traveling from developing countries).

ELIGIBILITY

Applicant must 1] be able to understand scientific reports (in English) of HIV basic science and clinical research (including posters and oral presentations); 2] be affiliated with an AIDS treatment, research, or vaccine information or education organization; 3] be actively involved in community treatment and prevention education or training; and 4] have a viable plan to share what was learned at the conference (particularly with other treatment/research educators). 

SELECTION

Scholarships will be awarded based upon the quality of the application and the level of financial need.  Up to 2 applications per organization will be considered.  Preference will be given to applicants who have participated in a formal prevention or treatment education program; whose education activities reach diverse populations; who work in high impact/incidence and resource-constrained settings; and who have a strong track record in information dissemination, training, and mentoring.

REQUIREMENTS

Program Participants are required to 1] attend the full meeting; 2] attend the Program Committee Workshop for New Investigators and Trainees; 3] submit a one page summary of what was learned at the conference and how that information was shared with their respective community (specific guidelines for the report will be included in the disposition); and 4] complete the online Conference Evaluation at the close of the meeting.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applicants should submit: 1] a Community Educator Program Application and 2] letter of recommendation (on official letterhead with a signature and telephone number) from the AIDS information/education organization with which the applicant is employed or affiliated.

The deadline is 5 pm ET, October 21 (Applicants will be notified of the disposition of their application on or around November 28 via email).
