Michael Yin
Columbia Univ Med Ctr, New York, NY, US

Background:  Low bone density is common among HIV+ men and women, and recent studies suggest that rates of fragility fracture are also increased, especially among older individuals.

Conclusions:  This presentation will review the pathogenesis and risk factors of osteoporosis and fracture in HIV+ patients, including the contributions of chronic HIV infection, traditional osteoporosis risk factors, and ARV exposure. In addition, current recommendations regarding the screening and treatment of osteoporosis will be reviewed.
